Stomatitis:
Stomatitis is a sore or inflammation inside of the mouth. The sore can be in the cheeks, gums, inside of the lips, or on the tongue.
Types:
The two main forms of stomatitis are:
- Herpes stomatitis: also known as a cold sore.
- Aphthous stomatitis: also known as a canker sore.
Causes:
The most common causes are:
- Trauma from ill-fitting dentures or braces.
- Chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
- Viral infection, such as herpes.
- Yeast infection, such as thrush.
- Smoking or chewing tobacco.
- Nutritional deficiencies.
- Allergic reactions.
- Burns caused by hot food and drink.
Symptoms:
Stomatitis results in pain, stinging and soreness. It can present with:
- Red patches
- Mouth ulcers
- Blisters
- Peeling
- Swelling
- Oral dysaesthesia (numbness)
- Burning mouth syndrome ? soreness despite normal appearance
These can lead to dehydration and malnutrition.

Formula with properties:
Arjuna 1D: for mouth ulcers.
Borax 1D: Aphthae. White fungous like growth. Mouth hot and tender; ulcers bleed on touch and eating. Painful gumboil. Taste bitter. Gastro-intestinal inflammation.
Echinacea Ang 1D: Canker; gums recede and bleed easily; corners of mouth and lips crack; tongue dry and swollen. Promotes the flow of saliva.
Hydrastis Can 1D: Peppery taste. Tongue white, swollen, large, flabby, slimy; shows imprint of teeth as if scalded; stomatitis. Ulceration of tongue, fissures toward the edges.
Glycyrrhiza Glab 1D: improves acidity of stomach that cause inflammation of mouth.
Zincum Sulph 2D: ulcers and inflammation of mouth that is due to any infection or acidity of stomach.
