JABORANDI

The common names of the Jaborandi are Pilocarpus, Arruda Brava and Juarandi. It is found in Brazil. It was introduced by Countinho in 1874. The mother tincture is prepared from dried leaves and stems, and dilution from it. This remedy is indicated in dropsical effusions of lungs and in cardiac dropsy. It has been employed extensively, with marked success in puerperal and uraemic eclampsia. It is very useful in lower dilution to control the night sweats. It is also employed in alopecia and is a valuable remedy in limiting the duration of mumps.
