The tonsils (palatine tonsils) are a pair of soft tissue masses located at the rear of the throat (pharynx). Each tonsil is composed of tissue similar to lymph nodes, covered by pink mucosa (like on the adjacent mouth lining.). Tonsils vary widely in size and swell in response to infection.
Tonsil Conditions:
- Acute tonsillitis: A bacteria or virus infects the tonsils, causing sore throat and swelling. The tonsil may develop a gray or white coating (exudate).
- Chronic tonsillitis: Persistent infection of the tonsils, sometimes as a result of repeated episodes of acute tonsillitis.
- Per tonsillar abscess: An infection creates a pocket of pus next to the tonsil, pushing it toward the opposite side. Per tonsillar abscesses must be drained urgently.
- Strep throat: Streptococcus, a bacterium, infects the tonsils and throat. Fever and neck pain often accompany the sore throat.

Pharmacology:
HR 10 contains Allium cepa in which thiosulphinate exhibit antimicrobial effects, antiasthmatic and antiallergic effects. It reduces the inflammation of the mouth and pharynx, tonsillitis and common cold. Hydrastis Canadensis contains isoquinone alkaloids, berberine and hydrastine; they block secretory effects of enterotoxins. Berberine also has platelet alpha2 adrenoceptor agonist activity. HR 10 has powerful antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of cyclic AMP phosphodiestrase.HR 10 contains Verbascum Thapsus which has expectorant effects due to the presence of mucin and saponin. It produces soothing effects to Inflamed and swollen tonsils.? HR 10 reduces the throat pain or tenderness, redness of the tonsils, decreases white or yellow coating on the tonsils. HR 10 contains Thymus vulgaris which is a bronchial antispasmodic and expectorant and also shows antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiprotozoan and antioxidant properties. Formula with properties:
Allium Cepa 2D: Specially adapted to phlegmatic patients. Burning in nose, mouth, throat, bladder and skin. Sensation of glowing heat on different parts of the body. Fluent coryza with headache, cough, and hoarseness. Feeling of a lump at root of nose.
Baptisia Tinct 1D: Dark redness of tonsils and soft palate. Constriction, contraction of esophagus. Great difficulty in swallowing solid food. Painless sore throat, and offensive discharge.
Belladonna 6D: dry throat, Tonsils enlarged, Esophagus dry; feels contracted. Muscles of deglutition very sensitive. Hypertrophy of mucous membrane.
Echinacea Ang 1D: Tonsils purple or black, gray exudation extending to posterior nares and air-passages. Ulcerated sore throat.
Hepar sulph 6D: When swallowing, sensation as if a plug and of a splinter in throat. Quinsy, with impending suppuration. Stitches in throat extending to the ear when swallowing. Hawking up of mucus.
Hydrastis Can 1D: Follicular pharyngitis. Raw, smarting, excoriating sensation. Hawking of yellow, tenacious mucus. Eustachian catarrh.
Thymus Vulg 1D: Respiratory infections of children. Burning in pharynx, sore, throat worse empty swallowing.
