Depression is a common mental disorder, characterized by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that are normally enjoyed, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities, for at least two weeks.
It is twice as prevalent in women as in men. It may occur at any age.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): MDD is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States. It is also referred to as clinical depression, is a significant medical condition, it impacts mood and behavior as well as various physical functions, such as appetite and sleep. People with MDD often lose interest in activities. Occasionally, they may also feel as life isn?t worth living.
Persistent Depressive Disorder: Dysthymia, now known as persistent depressive disorder, refers to a type of chronic depression present for at least two years. It can be mild, moderate or severe.
Bipolar Disorder: Is a mood disorder characterized by periods of abnormally elevated mood known as mania. These periods of a major can be mild (hypomania) or they can be so extreme as to cause marked impairment with a person?s life.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): SAD is believed to be triggered by a disturbance in the normal circadian rhythm of the body. Light entering through the eyes influences this rhythm, and any seasonal variation in night/day pattern can cause a disruption leading to depression.
There are a number of factors that may increase the chance of depression, including the following:
Abuse. Past physical, sexual, or emotional abuse can increase the vulnerability to clinical depression later in life.
Conflict. Depression in someone who has the biological vulnerability to develop depression may result from personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends.
Death or a loss. Sadness or grief from the death or loss of a loved one, though natural, may increase the risk of depression.
Serious illnesses. Sometimes depression co-exists with a major illness or may be triggered by another medical condition.
Genetics. A family history of depression may increase the risk. It?s thought that depression is a complex trait, meaning that there are probably many different genes that each exert small effects, rather than a single gene that contributes to disease risk.

HR 16 contains Avena sat, Hypericum perf, Passiflora Inc and Valeriana off which produce GABA-mediated anxiolytic activity and acts as anxiolytic and mild hypnotic. It reduces stress and keeps nerves calm. HR 16 is also very useful for sleeping problems (Insomnia); it relieves nervousness, seizures, excitability and palpitations. HR 16 is antagonist of the GABAB receptors and hence used as sedative for promoting calmness and relaxation. It is Beneficial in treating the symptoms associated with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), hysteria, and narcotic drug withdrawal.HR 16 contains hypericum which inhibit the activation of NMDA receptors, The N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (a glutamate receptor and ion channel protein found in nerve cells) and relieves from excessive nerve pain, nervous exhaustions, headache and m?? yalgia.Moreover, HR 16 contains Hypericum perforatum which also reduces the GABA-activated chloride currents and exerts anxiolytic effects.

Avena sat 1D: Has a selective action on brain and nervous system. Sleeplessness. Inability to keep mind on any one subject.
Passiflora inc 1D: An efficient anti-spasmodic. Delirium tremens; neuralgia. Has a quieting effect on the nervous system. Insomnia, produces normal sleep.
Valeriana off 1D: Hysteria, over-sensitiveness, nervous affections.
Hypericum 1D: Maintain the cerebral function.
