Introduction:

The lower back, which starts below the ribcage, is called the lumbar region.

Lumbago is a general term used to describe pain in the lumbar region, or lower back. It is defined as a mild to severe pain or discomfort in the area of the lower back.

Cause:

It can be caused by a variety of conditions such as a slipped disc, scoliosis (deformation of the natural curvature of the spine), osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) or, more rarely, by tumours or infection in the spinal area.

Symptoms:

Back pain can have many symptoms, including:

• A dull aching sensation in the lower back
• A stabbing or shooting pain that can radiate down the leg to the foot
• An inability to stand up straight without pain
• A decreased range of motion and diminished ability to flex the back

Pharmacology:

HR 26 has a powerful analgesic that is Gaultherin which changes in to methyl salicylate when plant material is dried. This gaultherin has rubifacient, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties, thus HR 26 has proven used for neuralgia (particularly Sciatica), backache, gastralgias, pleurisy, pleurodynia (especially for medium stage pain), and uratic arthritis. HR 26 has additional analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic properties due the constituent?s salix alba and harpagoquinone in it, which inhibits ecosanoid biosynthesis, and play important role in alleviating symptoms of rheumatic and arthritic complaints. It also contains the Steroidal alkaloid glycosides that stimulate phagocytosis, are hemolytic, cytotoxic, antiviral, anticholinergic, and have anesthetic properties. HR 26 contains Gaultheria which has a desensitizing effect in patients suffering from rheumatic polyarthritus.

Formula with properties:

Harpagophytum pro 1D: relieves inflammation of joints and muscles.

Dulcamara 3D: Paralysis; paralyzed limbs, feet icy cold. Rheumatic troubles induced by damp cold are aggravated by every cold change and somewhat relieved by moving about. Stiffness and lameness across neck and shoulders, after getting cold and wet.

Gaultheria pro 1D: Inflammatory rheumatism, pleurodynia, sciatica, and other neuralgias, come within, the sphere of this remedy.

Rhus tox 3D: Pain between shoulders on swallowing. Pain and stiffness in small of back; better, motion, or lying on something hard; worse, while sitting. Stiffness of the nape of the neck.

Salix Alba 1D: Pain across sacral and lumbar region. Unable to step out quickly.

Dosage: 10-15 drops every 2-3 hours with fresh water under acute conditions. Less frequently when improvement starts i.e. three times a day.
