Constipation:
Constipation is a condition of the digestive system where an individual has hard stool that are difficult to expel. In most cases, this occurs because the colon has absorbed too much water from the food that is in the colon.
Causes:
Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water. This can occur if the muscles in the colon are contracting slowly or poorly, causing the stool to move too slowly and lose more water.
These are the most common causes of constipation:
- Lack of fiber in the diet.
- Physical inactivity.
- Medications
- Due to milk.
- Irritable bowel syndrome.
- Pregnancy.
- Aging.
- Changes in routine.
- Overuse of laxatives.
- Not drinking enough water.
- Problems with the colon or rectum.
Signs and symptoms:
Signs and symptoms of constipation include:
- Passing fewer than three stools a week.
- Having lumpy or hard stools.
- Straining to have bowel movements.
- Feeling as though there?s a blockage in rectum that prevents bowel movements.
- Feel as can?t completely empty the rectum.
- Needs help to empty rectum, such as using hands to press abdomen and using a finger to remove stool from rectum.
Constipation may be considered chronic if two or more of these symptoms persist for at least three months.

Constipation occurs when bowel movements become difficult or less frequent. The main causes of constipation are low fiber diet, repeatedly ignoring the urge to go, not drinking enough water, and lack of exercise. It is said that constipation is root cause of many diseases. Masood?s HR 39 promptly gives relief from constipation.
Pharmacology:
HR 39 contains Senna, which is anthranoid-type stimulating laxative. It contains sennosides, and its metabolite rhein anthrone inhibits the water and electrolyte absorption from the large intestine, which increases the volume and the pressure of intestinal content, this will stimulate the colon motility resulting in the propulsive contractions.HR 39 has a powerful laxative effect partially via stimulation of colonic fluid and electrolyte secretion, and this secretion is mediated by stimulation of endogenous prostaglandins E2 formation. Moreover HR 39 contains Nux vomica which increases reflex excitability. Endogenic and exogenic stimuli reach the target organ without hindrance, and as a result possess a strengthened effect that can attribute to alkaloid strychnine and brucine; these are competitive antagonists of neurotransmitter glycine. HR 39 acts as cholinolytic and thus inhibits?the?secretion?of?saliva, perspiration, and?fluids?from?the?gastric?and?intestinal?glands, accelerate?the?heart?rate,?and?relax the smooth?? muscles?of the?bronchi and?stomach.?They?are?used?to?treat?renal,?hepatic, intestinal?colic?and gastric?and?duodenal?ulcers, to?dilate?the?pupils,?and?to?relieve?bronchospasm.

- Cascara sag 1D 15% v/v
- Rheum pal 1D 5% v/v
- Senna 1D 23% v/v
- Taraxacum off 1D 12% v/v

Formula with properties:
Belladonna: Relief pain of pain. Stinging pain in rectum; spasmodic stricture. Piles more sensitive with backache.
Carum carvi: Effective in constipation and liver problems.
Cascara sag: Effective for indigestion with liver problem and also in jaundice, if Rheumatic pains, constipation is present then this remedy is to be sure.
Rheum pal: Colic pain and burning due to constipation.
Senna: constipation with colic a flatulence. Stools hard and dark, with loss appetite.
Taraxacum off:? For gastric headaches, bilious attacks. Sensation of bubbles bursting in bowels. Tympanites. Evacuation difficult.
